Udhayanidhi Stalin to Inaugurate Restored Kamaraj Memorial in Ranipet

Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin will inaugurate the restored memorial of former Chief Minister and Congress leader K. Kamaraj in Ranipet on Monday. The historic building, where Kamaraj once took refuge from British authorities during the freedom struggle, has been carefully renovated by the Ranipet municipality to preserve its heritage significance.

The modest structure, located within the 8.5-acre municipal office complex, had deteriorated over the years and was being used to store cattle feed. It has now been restored to its original form, featuring traditional Mangalore-tiled roofing, wooden doors, vintage electrical fittings, and hurricane lamps. “The memorial has regained its original charm and will soon be open to the public,” said Ranipet Municipal Commissioner S. Buvaneswaran.

Comprising three compact rooms of about 100 sq. ft each, the house once belonged to leather merchant and freedom fighter Mohammad A. B. Sulaiman Sahib. The site gained prominence during the Quit India Movement in 1942 when Kamaraj hid there after evading arrest by British police. The newly restored memorial now stands as a tribute to his courage and the solidarity of Tamil Nadu’s freedom fighters.
