Prestige Battle Unfolds in Jubilee Hills Bypoll as Congress, BRS, BJP Lock Horns

Published On: November 9, 2025

Hyderabad, Nov 9 (IANS) — The Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency is witnessing an intense political showdown as the ruling Congress, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), and the BJP battle for supremacy in the crucial by-election. The contest has become a prestige fight between Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, both leading high-voltage campaigns for their respective parties.

Though the outcome will not affect the Congress government’s stability, a BRS win could rejuvenate the party’s morale after its Lok Sabha setback, while a loss for Congress may embolden internal critics ahead of local body polls. The seat, left vacant after the demise of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath, has his wife Maganti Sunitha contesting for BRS, Naveen Yadav for Congress, and Lankala Deepak Reddy for BJP.

AIMIM’s decision to back Congress instead of fielding its own candidate has strengthened the ruling party’s position, especially among Muslim voters, who make up 35% of the electorate. The BJP, however, is aggressively targeting both rivals, accusing the Congress of “appeasement politics.”

The bypoll has thus turned into a high-stakes battle not only for Jubilee Hills but also for political dominance in Telangana’s capital region, setting the stage for future municipal elections.
