J&K LG Announces 133 New Houses for Shelling-Affected Families in Poonch

Jammu, Nov 21 (IANS): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has announced that the NGO Human Resource Development Society (HRDS) will construct 133 houses for families in Poonch whose homes were destroyed in recent Pakistani shelling. Each house, costing Rs 1 million, is expected to be completed within six months, providing timely rehabilitation for the affected residents.

During his visit to Poonch on Friday, LG Sinha said the administration is committed to ensuring that all necessary assistance reaches the families impacted by cross-border shelling. Senior officials, including J&K DGP Nalin Prabhat and IGP Kashmir, accompanied the LG as relief materials were distributed to civilians who suffered losses during ‘Operation Sindoor.’ Officials assured that all damaged homes would be rebuilt without delay.

The LG also reviewed the overall security situation in the district and evaluated ongoing rehabilitation measures. His visit underscored the government’s dual focus on relief efforts and maintaining stability along the Line of Control.

The shelling followed India’s strikes on nine terror infrastructures in Muridke, Bahawalpur, Kotli and Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). Pakistan retaliated by targeting civilian areas in Poonch, resulting in casualties—including a senior civil servant—and significant damage to homes, religious sites and public institutions. In response to the escalation, Indian forces struck 14 defence installations deep inside Pakistan.
