Muscat: India has emerged as a leading force in advancing the vision of the Global South, sharing the benefits of its development journey across sectors such as socio-economic growth, digital infrastructure, trade, and investment, according to a report cited by the Times of Oman.
The report highlights India’s pivotal role in shaping the evolving dynamics of the Global South, underscoring its commitment to a multipolar world, equitable distribution of resources, and democratization of global institutions. From its leadership in the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) alongside Egypt, Indonesia, and Ghana to promoting South-South Cooperation today, India has consistently championed the collective voice of developing nations.
Citing India’s humanitarian diplomacy, the report recalled the ‘Vaccine Maitri’ initiative during the Covid-19 pandemic, under which India supplied nearly 300 million vaccine doses to vulnerable nations — often free of cost — in stark contrast to countries that imposed export restrictions.
It further noted India’s expanding economic footprint, with over $50 billion in investments in Africa, driving job creation and infrastructure growth, and rising engagement in IT and renewable energy sectors across Latin America. Guided by the spirit of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, India continues to strengthen cooperation, resilience, and sustainable development across the Global South.
