The government on Thursday approved the Textiles-focused Research, Assessment, Monitoring, Planning and Start-up (Tex-RAMPS) scheme, aimed at boosting research, innovation and competitiveness in India’s textile industry. With a total outlay of ₹305 crore, the scheme will run from 2025-26 to 2030-31 as a fully funded Central Sector Scheme under the Ministry of Textiles.
Announcing the initiative, Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh said Tex-RAMPS is designed to future-proof the textile and apparel ecosystem by bridging critical gaps in research, data systems, innovation and capacity building. The scheme will promote advanced research in smart textiles, sustainability, process efficiency and emerging technologies, helping position India as a leader in next-generation textiles.
A key component of the scheme is the creation of an Integrated Textiles Statistical System, a real-time data and analytics platform to support structured monitoring, employment assessments, supply-chain mapping and strategic policy decisions, including studies such as the India-Size project.
Tex-RAMPS will also strengthen state-level planning, support capacity-building workshops and encourage innovation through start-ups, incubators, hackathons and academia-industry collaborations. The government expects the scheme to enhance global competitiveness, boost employment opportunities and deepen cooperation across states, institutions and industry stakeholders.
