KOLKATA: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has completed its probe into the financial corruption case at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, with officials confirming on Wednesday that the recently submitted additional chargesheet is the final one in the matter.
According to agency sources, all relevant documents were placed before the court, signalling the end of the investigation for now, though in past cases additional chargesheets have sometimes followed even after a “final” filing. During Wednesday’s hearing, the Special CBI Court noted that since the trial had already begun based on the original chargesheet, there was no legal obstacle to accepting an additional chargesheet under the same provisions.
CBI sources said the investigation established the involvement of former principal Sandip Ghosh and former Deputy Superintendent Akhtar Ali, who had initially accused Ghosh of corruption. Akhtar Ali has now been named in the final chargesheet along with a new accused, Shashikant Chandak. The court has directed that summons be issued to Ali for December 16, while Chandak will also be summoned.
Earlier, the CBI had filed chargesheets against Sandip Ghosh, Biplab Singh, Suman Hazra, Afsar Ali Khan, and Ashish Pandey, all of whom were arrested during the probe.
