India Will Keep Buying Fuel Where It Benefits Most, Says Putin’s Top Aide

Moscow, Dec 8 (IANS): Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov has reaffirmed that India will continue purchasing energy resources based on its own economic interests. Speaking in Moscow, Peskov said India, as a sovereign nation, conducts foreign trade wherever it finds the most advantageous terms, and this approach will remain unchanged following President Vladimir Putin’s recent State Visit to New Delhi.

He described Putin’s India visit as “very successful” and noted that New Delhi is expected to keep sourcing fuel from Russia whenever it suits its economic priorities. His comments came in response to a query on whether India would maintain its energy trade with Moscow.

After talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week, President Putin emphasised that Russia remains a dependable energy supplier for India and will ensure uninterrupted fuel deliveries to support the country’s rapidly expanding economy. He also highlighted the strengthening of financial cooperation, including the growing use of national currencies in bilateral trade, which now accounts for 96 per cent of transactions.

During the summit, both leaders reviewed the full spectrum of India-Russia ties and signed several agreements covering trade, mobility, maritime cooperation, health, academic exchanges and cultural partnerships, reaffirming their commitment to deepen the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.
