Women Entrepreneurs Shine at Bhagalpur Handicraft Fair; Govt Schemes Drive Remarkable Success Stories

The ongoing Entrepreneur and Handicraft Fair in Bhagalpur, Bihar, has become a major attraction, showcasing a rich variety of local products under the “Vocal for Local” initiative promoted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Among the highlights are the vibrant stalls run by Jeevika Didis and women entrepreneurs, whose inspiring journeys have impressed visitors and boosted support for homegrown businesses.

Many women shared how government schemes helped transform their lives. Bhagalpur resident Monica Kumari said her small business, started with just ₹1,500, now records an annual turnover of ₹1.65 crore, thanks to Startup India and the IT Ministry. Similarly, Jeevika member Lalita Devi described her rise from earning ₹100 a day to becoming a business owner after receiving financial support through Jeevika and PMFME loans.

Millet farmer Nikita Kumari also drew attention for creating a successful business inspired by the Prime Minister’s promotion of millets. Today, she not only manufactures multiple millet-based products but also provides employment to nearly 3,000 women. Entrepreneurs like Kannauj’s Alok Rathore shared similar success stories, crediting Khadi India and the government’s Swadeshi push for their growth.

The fair also celebrates Bhagalpur’s cultural heritage. The traditional Manjusha painting, recently granted a GI tag, is gaining new recognition and strengthening the fair’s theme—“Development through Heritage.”
