Udupi (Karnataka): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday participated in the grand ‘Laksha Kantha Gita’ chanting at Udupi Sri Krishna Math, joining one lakh devotees in the collective recitation. Seated alongside religious seers, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and other dignitaries, the Prime Minister chanted verses from Chapter 15 of the Bhagavad Gita and the concluding shlokas of the final chapter with deep devotion.
Addressing the gathering, PM Modi said the experience filled him with strength and blessings, inspiring him to serve the nation with even greater dedication. He described the mass chanting as spiritually powerful, saying that when a lakh people recite the Gita in unison, it generates profound energy that strengthens both mind and body. He praised Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji for turning the vision of the Koti Gita Yagna into a reality and highlighted its role in promoting collective consciousness and Sanatana Dharma.
The Prime Minister also lauded the growing interest among youth in the Gita, noting India’s rich tradition of imparting spiritual knowledge to younger generations. He recalled Udupi’s significant contribution to the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and paid homage to saints like Vishvesha Teertha Swamiji, Purandaradasa and Kanakadasa.
Later, PM Modi offered prayers at Madhwa Sarovara, unveiled the golden “Kanaka Kavacha” at the sacred Kanakana Kindi, and sought blessings from the Ashta Mutt seers during his visit.
