Not Every Kashmiri Is a Terrorist, Says J&K CM Omar Abdullah

JAMMU, Nov 13 (IANS) — Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said it was unfair to label every Kashmiri as a terrorist, stressing that such blanket suspicion discourages people from following the right path.

Speaking to reporters in Jammu, Abdullah condemned the recent Delhi terror blast, calling it a “brutal and unacceptable act against innocent people.” He said, “No religion allows such violence. The investigation is ongoing, and those responsible must be punished severely.” However, he urged that innocent people should not be targeted in the process.

The Chief Minister emphasized that only a handful of individuals are responsible for disturbing peace in the region, while the majority of Kashmiris are peace-loving citizens. “When every Kashmiri Muslim is viewed with suspicion, it becomes difficult to keep people motivated toward peace and progress,” he said.

Referring to the Pahalgam terror attack earlier this year, which claimed 26 lives, Abdullah reiterated that locals should not be punished for crimes committed by foreign militants. Despite recent revelations of a terror module involving Kashmiri doctors, he reaffirmed his commitment to restoring tourism and strengthening trust between Kashmir and the rest of India.
